What do you get when you donate to the Library on April Fool’s Day? You double your donation. No joke! April 1 is when Sedona Public Library kicks off our annual Library Giving Day campaign, and this year, three generous community members have made matching gifts totaling $30,000. That’s amazing! Your gifts, beginning on April 1, will be matched dollar for dollar throughout the month. Too good to be true? Not at all, and guess what else? When you make a gift to Sedona Public Library you are investing in one of the greatest assets Sedona has. You make everything we do possible. Read on to learn about what you can do in April at both Library locations. No fooling, it’s fabulous, and a great way to celebrate Spring!
Spring is a wonderful time to reset our mental clocks to accept new ideas. And for those of us who attempted, but failed, the “New Year, New Me” mindset in January? You get a second chance. The Library is happy to help!
First up, let’s yell at the sun together! April 1 is our inaugural “Yell at the Sun” program. Have you ever had bright morning sunlight stream into the bedroom and interrupt a perfect dream? Or blind you when you were driving west at sundown? Now is your chance to tell the sun how you really feel. Meet us at the Friends Fire Circle at 10:30 a.m. because any earlier would be insane. Feel free to tell the sun that it’s not the center of the universe, you are! Free megaphones for the first 20 attendees. No kidding – actually, let’s do this!
There’s no better way to celebrate the new season than with a good stretch. We’ll see you at Yoga at the Library on Thursday, April 4 and Friday, April 19 with yoga instructor Kimberly Sanchez (of Prana of Sedona). Kim is a welcome addition to the line-up of library programs geared towards health and wellness, and she also teaches Chair Yoga on Fridays at the Village Library at 1:30 p.m.
Then, for your viewing pleasure, and in case you missed it on the big screen, you can watch “Killers of the Flower Moon” with free popcorn on Friday, April 5, at 5 p.m. As the movie is a long one, three and a half hour run time, we’ll have an intermission.
There’s even more viewing to do in April as the month brings another solar eclipse. On Monday, April 8, local astronomers from Sirius Lookers will be on hand with their telescopes from 10 a.m. to noon on the Commons. Do you have your eclipse sunglasses from October? They still work, so please bring them! We’ll provide glasses, at the event only, while supplies last.
For all the fun April might bring, it does mean tax time, and if you haven’t yet done so, take advantage of AARP’s free tax preparation services. They will wrap up on Wednesday, April 10 at the Village Library and on Saturday, April 13 in West Sedona. Stop in today and grab your free AARP tax packet.
Then, lift your spirits with Natural Grocers’ Nutritional Health Coach, Nickie Severa, on Tuesday, April 10 at noon when she presents her monthly ‘bring your’ Lunch and Learn series. Tuesday’s topic is Maximizing Your Healthspan: How to Put Health Back into Your Years and Live Life to The Fullest. Seating is limited.
In synch with the health vibe, we’ll see you on Thursday, April 18 for the Longevity Society meeting. This monthly gathering continues the conversation that began in January in our Longevity Series. Our wonderful instructors Geno and Patty Kelly will lead a discussion on how to live a longer and healthier life. Everyone is welcome.
Have you been to Sunset Park in Sedona and visited the new StoryWalk? The new storybook exhibit features “On the Verde River” by Phoebe Fox, illustrated by Jim Fox, and produced by Friends of the Verde River. We’re excited to feature this popular book that will also debut at the National Book Festival in Washington, D.C..
Continuing with the creative theme, at the Village Library on April 11 at 3 p.m., bring your easily portable art or crafting project for Creative Connection. Connect with other creatives while you work on your piece or share something you’ve finished.
So, what are you waiting for? Spring into this new season, and enjoy the fun and informative opportunities at both library locations. There’s a ton more in store, just visit sedonalibrary.org and go to the events calendar.
Remember, your gifts will be matched, dollar for dollar, starting on Monday, April 1. We’re not fooling when we say investing in your library gives you one of the best returns on investment in the community. Visit sedonalibrary.org/donate and make your gift today!
