Volunteer at the Sedona Public Library

Why Volunteer?

Volunteers gain personal growth and fulfillment as they contribute their time and skills to meet the learning and information needs of the public the library serves. Friendship, education, recognition and genuine satisfaction in a job well done are among the rewards of volunteering. Volunteers are the heart of the Sedona Public Library. Over 160 volunteers currently donate their time and talents to provide valuable assistance to the staff and patrons of the library. Sedona Public Library was founded by volunteers and to this day volunteers provide the backbone for our services.

What types of placements are available?

We have positions in Circulation (Checking items in and out, shelving, shelf reading), Technical Services (book mending, book covering, tape/CD/DVD maintenance), Periodicals (preparing magazines for shelving and sale, newspapers), Interlibrary Loan (requesting items from libraries outside the Yavapai Library Network), Business Office, Children’s Programs (After School program, Summer Reading Program), Collections (displays), Book sales and Donations (research, Internet book sales).

Time Commitment

Most volunteers work 2-4 hours per week; many work more. Some volunteers work for more than one department. Some volunteers prefer to be on-call only and substitute for volunteers who must be away from their shift.

How do I Volunteer?

Fill in the application, click send, or print and mail or deliver your completed application to the Library.  In the application you will describe your talents, skills and interests so that we may provide you with a volunteer opportunity that will benefit you and the library.

When we receive your application, we will call you to set up an interview. At the interview you will take a tour of the library and select a department where you'd like to work and what days and hours best suit your schedule. You will be matched with a mentor in the department of your choice and receive training for the position you have selected.
Applicants must be at least 18 years for most of the library’s volunteer positions. There are a limited number of positions available for teenagers. Teen volunteer applications are available online and at the youth services desk.
