Who Are the Friends of the Sedona Library?
Friends of the Sedona Library, Inc. is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, separate from the Sedona Public Library, whose main function is to raise funds to help supplement the monies that the Library receives from the City of Sedona, Coconino County, and Yavapai County. For the past several years, the Friends have pledged over $100,000 annually to the Library, as well as funded special requests that have arisen outside of normal operations. These monies come from our fundraising projects, which include our spring and fall book sales, our ongoing print and online book sales, the Festival of Wreaths, Art from the Heart, and—new this fall—the Bashas’ Community Support Card.
The 2012 fall book sale starts with the preview for Friends of the Library members, invited guests, staff, and volunteers on Friday, October 19, from 5:30 to 8 pm at the Library. The sale opens to the public on Saturday, October 20, and runs through October 28 during regular Library hours, except for Sundays, when the sale is open from noon to 4 pm.
Dates pertaining to this year’s Festival of Wreaths are as follows:
- A wreath-making and tabletop tree workshop will be held on October 31 at 9:30 am in the Si Birch Community Room. Bring your materials and learn methods for creating a great wreath from Bob Zaworski. Space is limited and reservations should be made by calling or e-mailing San Dee Kinnen, chairperson for the Festival of Wreaths: 928-203-4363 or email@example.com.
- Take-in of wreaths and all artistic donations will happen on Friday, November 9, from 10 am to 4 pm at the Library and from 1 to 4 pm at SPL in the Village.
- The Gala Celebration and Sale takes place on Sunday, November 11, from 5 to 8 pm. Tickets are $15 each, or two for $25. The Gala is fun and festive, so join us for an evening of wine and appetizers, musical entertainment, an exciting raffle, and—most of all—a chance to peruse and buy the wonderful creations that have been donated.
- On Monday, November 12, the sale of wreaths to the public begins at the Library and lasts through mid-December.
Art from the Heart is a sale of handcrafted valentines by local artists. This event runs from January 22 through February 14, 2013.
The Bashas’ Community Card is our newest effort to raise funds, and it’s an easy way for our supporters to help the Friends. Use the Bashas’ Community Card when you shop at all Bashas’, AJ’s Fine Foods, Food City, Bashas’ Dine, and Eddies’ Country Store locations, to earn dollars for the Friends of the Library. All you need to do is purchase a Community Card from the Friends. Cards are available at the reference desk for $10.00 (they are not available for purchase at Bashas’). Your card comes pre-loaded with $10.00. Prior to the cashier ringing up your grocery order, ask them to load money onto your Community Card. You can use cash, check, or debit or credit card to put whatever amount you want on the card. Once the card is loaded, use it just like a prepaid gift card to make your purchase. At the completion of your grocery purchase, you will receive a register slip showing the amount left on your card. Each time you load dollars onto your Community Card, the Friends of the Sedona Library receives 6% of that amount. Using the Community Card does not cost you any more money than you would normally spend on groceries.
