Happy Holidays from Sedona Public Library

Sedona Public Library started its holiday celebration with the Friends of Sedona Library’s Festival of Wreaths Gala in mid-November.  Once again, this kickoff to the holidays was a fundraiser for the library that provided an enjoyable evening for all who attended.

Under the direction of Youth Services Librarian Karen Mack, a variety of holiday events were held for children, highlighted by a visit from Mrs. Claus.  On Saturday, December 31 at 11:00 a.m., we will celebrate Kwanzaa, which is an African-American, recently initiated celebration.  Kwanzaa is a time when African-American families honor their history and ancestors with meaningful traditions centered on community, culture and family.  This seven-day celebration begins on December 26.  Story Stop will take a lively look at the festivities that go along with a Kwanzaa celebration.

During the sometimes gloomy days of winter and throughout the year, the library is a cheerful place to connect not only with information resources but also with people.  We invite you to come to the library this holiday season and throughout the year and strike up a conversation with one of the staff, a volunteer, or another patron.  Learn about a subject that is foreign to you.  Check out a novel, audio book, or entertaining DVD.  Attend one of the many programs offered by the library or other groups that use the meeting rooms.  Reach out to friends and family by using one of our internet computers to access e-mail.

Upcoming displays are certain to brighten your day.  The library Quilt Exhibit opens on Thursday, December 29 and continues through mid-February.  This is always a colorful event which banishes any post-holiday doldrums.

As part of the ongoing Sedona Public Library in the Village Rotating Artist Series, Jim Peterson will be displaying his artwork at the village location in Tequa Marketplace now through February 12.  An artist’s reception will be held on Wednesday, January 4 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Founded in 1958, the Sedona Public Library is a non-profit corporation that serves the community as a public library.  When considering a year-end gift, please keep in mind that the library’s continued upkeep of the building and grounds relies on your support.  To make a tax-deductible contribution to the library, mail your gift to Sedona Public Library, 3250 White Bear Road, Sedona, AZ 86336.

Best wishes from the Board of Trustees, staff and volunteers for a happy holiday season!
